Initially I thought this could be a competitor to the Motorola MotoACTV that I rooted last year. It's nice OLED screen and small form factor made it attractive to me. It's also about $100 cheaper than the MotoACTV. But after purchasing the Smart watch and doing a tear down I can safely say it’s not even in the same ballpark as the MotoACTV. According to most blog/news sites (cough cough gdgt) this is an Android Froyo based device. That is not actually even close to being true.

It's running uC/OS-II a RTOS made by Micrium. The CPU is a STM32F205RG which runs at a max of 120MHz , with a max of 128KB of ram and 1MB of flash. The main BT chip seems to be some derivative of the STLC2690. It has a tiny 110mAh battery compared to the MotoACTV's 258mAh battery. I also noticed it has a built in FM radio but in typical Sony fashion it's not enabled.

Apparently Sony's name for this product internally is Newman. Which I think is slightly funny considering that if Sony's smart watch was a Seinfeld character it would definitely be Newman. I guess that makes the MotoACTV Jerry and the Pebble watch Elaine (5 million dollar kickstarter? are you kidding me). But the good news is that everyone’s favorite character Kramer (the character not the real life person) hasn't yet been filled and leaves me thinking that there might yet be another watch for me to hack.

Overall this was a huge disappointment and not worth the time it took to tear it apart! See below for the tear down pics.
